Which Board for a Bathroom Vanity? WPC, PVC or BWP Plywood

Short answer: for a bathroom vanity, use WPC board (doesn't absorb water, termites don't eat it) or BWP / marine plywood (strong, holds screws well, needs every edge sealed). PVC board works for light shutters and panels. Never MR or particle board in a bathroom. Raise the vanity off the floor or wall-mount it, edge-band every cut edge, and use stainless steel or rust-resistant hinges.

WPC vs PVC vs BWP for vanities
| WPC board | PVC board | BWP / marine plywood | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Water | Doesn't absorb | Doesn't absorb | Resists; edges must be sealed |
| Termites | Not eaten | Not eaten | Treated sheets resist |
| Strength | Good | Lower (light panels) | Highest |
| Screw holding | Good | Fair | Very good |
| Weight | Heavy | Light | Medium |
| Best part | Carcass and shutters | Shutters, light shelves | Carcass, especially for heavy stone tops |

How to build it so it lasts
- Wall-mounted or on legs, at least 4–6 inches off a floor that gets wet.
- Edge band every edge, including the hole cut for the waste pipe; seal that cut edge too.
- Laminate both sides of plywood shutters, or use WPC shutters.
- Stainless steel or rust-resistant hinges and handles; normal steel rusts in steam.
- Basin support: a counter-top basin sits on a stone or 18mm board top; an under-counter basin needs a strong frame.
- Plan the pipes before cutting: waste pipe, inlet, and access for repairs.
Material list (about 2.5 ft wide, wall-mounted vanity, estimate)
| Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| WPC board 18mm, or BWP plywood 18mm | 1 sheet |
| Laminate (if plywood) | 1 × 1mm + 1 liner |
| Edge band | about 8 m |
| Hinges (rust-resistant) | 2 per shutter |
| Handles | 1–2 |
| Wall brackets | 2 |
Bathroom doors too
The same logic applies to bathroom doors: a WPC door or a BWP flush door doesn't swell at the bottom. See which flush door to buy and why doors swell in the rain.
FAQ
Which plywood is best for a bathroom vanity? BWP or marine plywood with every edge sealed, or WPC board.
Is PVC good for a bathroom vanity? For shutters and light panels, yes. For a carcass carrying a stone top and basin, WPC or BWP plywood is stronger.
Can I use MDF or HDHMR in a bathroom? MDF, no. HDHMR handles moisture better but still isn't meant for a wet bathroom; use WPC or BWP.
