Exhibition stall walls can be 9–12mm MDF (smooth for paint and graphics, indoor only) or 12mm plywood (stronger, reusable) on a batten frame. Outdoor hoardings need BWP plywood with sealed edges. Festival backdrops indoors can be 6–9mm MDF. A 16 × 8 ft stage takes about 4 sheets of 18mm; a 10 × 10 ft stall with two walls about 5 sheets of 12mm plus a counter.

Load and safety on stages

• A stage carries many people standing, dancing and moving furniture. Use 18mm and keep the supports close (1.5–2 ft).
• Screw the boards to the frame; loose boards rock and trip.
• Edges and steps: mark them clearly and add a non-slip strip.
• Outdoors, dew and rain soak the boards: BWP, with edges sealed.

Reuse

Event decorators reuse panels for years. To get more events from each board:

• Plywood over MDF for anything reused or moved often.
• Seal edges and paint or laminate both faces.
• Store flat and dry between events.
