Which Glue for Wall Moulding: Silicone, No-Nail Adhesive, Fevicol or Nails

Short answer: on a wall, fix moulding with a no-nail (construction) adhesive: it grips at once, fills small gaps and holds on putty or primer. On plywood or MDF panels, wooden patti goes on with Fevicol SH plus a few pins. Silicone holds light PVC strips but paint won't stick to ordinary silicone, so fill the joints with a paintable acrylic sealant instead. Use pins or nails only to hold a strip while the adhesive sets, or where it goes into wood. Nitin Plywood House, Alipur keeps Fevicol, Asian Paints Trugrip and Masterlok adhesives; call +91-9212017608 to check which no-nail and sealant products are in stock today.

"Glue kaunsa hai?" is the most-liked question under wall moulding videos. The answer depends on what the moulding is made of and what it's going on.

Which adhesive on which surface

Moulding → Surface Use Why
PVC or polystyrene → putty or primed wall No-nail (construction) adhesive Instant grab, holds light and medium strips
Wooden patti → putty or primed wall No-nail adhesive + a few masonry pins or screws with plugs for heavy strips Wood is heavier and can pull away as it moves
Wooden patti → plywood or MDF panel Fevicol SH + pins Wood to wood: the strongest, cheapest bond
Any moulding → brick or bare plaster Prime first, then no-nail adhesive; plugs and screws for heavy wooden strips Dust and loose sand stop any glue holding
PVC moulding in a bathroom No-nail adhesive suitable for wet areas, or a neutral silicone Water every day

The four options

No-nail (construction) adhesive Silicone sealant Fevicol SH (white glue) Pins and nails
Grab Immediate Slow; needs tape to hold Slow; needs pressure or pins Immediate
On putty or paint Yes Yes (light strips) No Need plugs in brick
Fills gaps Yes Yes No No
Can be painted over Most can; check the tube Ordinary silicone: no Yes Fill heads with putty
Best for Wall moulding Light PVC, wet areas Wood on plywood or MDF Holding while glue sets, wood frames

Questions people ask

"Will it stick on wall putty?" The adhesive holds as well as the putty holds the wall. On fresh, sound putty with a coat of primer it's fine; on old, chalky or loose putty the moulding comes away with a layer of putty ("papdi nikal jaati hai"). Scrape loose patches and prime first.

"On a painted wall?" Yes, if the paint is sound. Glossy enamel is better lightly sanded where the moulding will sit.

"Will silicone melt in Delhi's heat?" No. Cured silicone handles summer heat. Silicone problems are a slow grab (strips slide down before it sets) and paint that won't cover it.

"Normal Fevicol on the wall?" White glue needs both surfaces to absorb it and needs pressure while it sets. It's right for wood on plywood, not for a strip on a painted wall.

"Which nails?" Thin pins (panel pins or nail-gun brads) for wooden patti on plywood; hardened steel nails or plugs and screws for brick. Sizes: nail (keel) size chart.

Before or after paint?

The usual order: putty → primer → fix the moulding → fill joints and pin holes with paintable sealant or putty → final coats of paint over wall and moulding together. Fixing after the final coat means a separate paint job on the moulding and a visible line where it meets the wall.

FAQ

Which glue is best for PVC wall moulding? A no-nail (construction) adhesive. Fill the joints with a paintable acrylic sealant, not silicone, if you'll paint over them.

Can moulding be fixed directly on the wall? Yes, on a sound, primed wall. No plywood base is needed for normal PVC or light wooden moulding.

How do I stick wooden beading on plywood? Fevicol SH and a few thin pins.

Can I paint over silicone? Not ordinary silicone. Use a paintable sealant where paint will go.
