Wall Moulding Size and Quantity: Which mm, and How Many Pieces for a Room

Short answer (rules of thumb): for a normal room with a 9–10 ft ceiling, use about 20–25 mm moulding for the frames on a bedroom wall and about 25–40 mm on a big hall or TV wall; keep one width for the whole design, or a thin inner frame with a wider outer frame. To count, list every side of every frame, fit the long sides into whole pieces first, then the short ones. A 10 ft wall with three tall frames takes about 9 pieces of 8 ft (with one spare); a 12 ft TV wall with four frames about 12. "10×10 ke bedroom mein kitne mm ki moulding?", "ek box mein kitne piece?" and "12 ft wall ke liye kitni?" are the questions under almost every wall moulding video. Here's how to work it out.
Which width
| Wall | Frame strip | Outer frame or divider line (if any) |
|---|---|---|
| Small wall (behind a bed, up to 10 ft) | about 15–25 mm | about 30–40 mm |
| Big wall (hall, 12 ft and more) | about 25–40 mm | about 40–50 mm |
| Wall with a TV or headboard in front | thinner (15–20 mm), so the design doesn't fight the furniture | |
| Ceiling frames | match the cornice; thin strips look best |
Thicker moulding throws a deeper shadow and looks heavier. If you're unsure, put two short pieces of different widths on the wall with tape and look at them from the door.
How long are the pieces?
Moulding is sold by the piece or by the running foot. Many PVC and polystyrene mouldings come in pieces of about 8 ft (2.4 m); wooden patti comes in different lengths. Boxes hold different counts by brand and width. Call +91-9212017608 for the piece length of the profile you choose before you count; the examples below assume 8 ft pieces.
How to count (so you don't run short)
- Draw the wall on paper with every frame and its size in feet.
- List every side: each frame has two long sides and two short sides.
- Fit the long sides first: one 8 ft piece gives one side of 6–8 ft, or two sides up to 4 ft each.
- Then the short sides: one 8 ft piece gives three sides of 2.5 ft, or four of 2 ft.
- Add 1 spare piece for a bad cut or a damaged length.
Counting this way avoids a joint in the middle of a side, which always shows.
Three worked examples (estimates)
1. Bedroom wall, 10 ft wide: three frames, each 2.5 ft wide × 6 ft tall
| Sides | Pieces of 8 ft |
|---|---|
| 6 long sides of 6 ft | 6 |
| 6 short sides of 2.5 ft | 2 |
| Spare | 1 |
| Total | about 9 pieces |
2. TV wall, 12 ft wide: four frames, each 2.5 ft × 6.5 ft
| Sides | Pieces of 8 ft |
|---|---|
| 8 long sides of 6.5 ft | 8 |
| 8 short sides of 2.5 ft | 3 |
| Spare | 1 |
| Total | about 12 pieces |
3. Two-row design on a 10 ft wall: a line across at chair height, three short frames above it and three tall frames below
| Sides | Pieces of 8 ft |
|---|---|
| Line across the wall, 10 ft | 2 (one joint, hide it at a frame) |
| 6 sides of 3.5 ft (lower frames) | 3 |
| 12 sides of 2.5 ft (widths of both rows) | 4 |
| 6 sides of 2 ft (upper frames) | 2 |
| Spare | 1 |
| Total | about 12 pieces |

Spacing that looks right
- Start frames about 6–9 inches above the skirting and below the ceiling or cornice.
- Keep the gaps between frames equal, usually 4–6 inches.
- Centre the design on the wall, or on the bed or TV if that's what people will see. Mark switch boards first: a frame cut around a switch board looks forced.

FAQ
How many mm moulding for a 10×10 bedroom? About 20–25 mm for the frames, with an optional 30–40 mm outer frame.
How many pieces of moulding for one wall? A 10 ft wall with three tall frames takes about 9 pieces of 8 ft, including a spare. Count your own design side by side, as above.
